Although the company started by only producing Darkstar wheels, the success and high demand meant that they began producing quality decks, complete boards and apparel. The design across their products is striking as many gothic graphics and characters such as snakes, dragons and skulls are featured.

The Darkstar brand was established by Chet Thomas in 1997 and belongs to Dwindle Distribution, based in El Segundo, California. As of 2005, Dwindle Distribution has been the largest skateboard company in the world. The company was established by Steve Rocco together with professional skateboarder Rodney Mullen.
