Buying Skateboard Bolts & Riser pads
Do I need riser pads on a skateboard?
By using riser pads, you increase the distance between your deck and wheels, which prevents wheel bites. Nevertheless, you won't likely need riser pads for common skateboard wheels with a diameter of up to 54 mm.
How to choose the correct length of skateboard bolts?
When building your skateboard, you should choose the length of the skateboard hardware bolts according to the thickness of the riser pads. As a rule of thumb, if you use riser pads on your skateboard, you should choose at least 1"+ skateboard bolts. If you do not use riser nor shock pads, bolts should be around 7/8“ – 1“ long.
Risers | Bolt length |
No riser | 7/8“ – 1“ bolts |
1/8“ riser pads | 1“ – 1 1/8“ bolts |
1/4“ riser pads | 1 1/4″ bolts |
1/2“ riser pads | 1 1/2″ bolts |
